Ancroft, Farm workers and families outside the Lamb Inn on "Flitting"day - Click for bigger imageFarm workers, or hinds, with their families and horses and carts at the Lamb Inn at Ancroft on "Flitting" day. Farm workers were known as hinds, and were usually employed for one year. Many workers stayed in the service of one farmer for many years. Some would travel to other farms in search of work on Flitting day, which was the 12th of May.
