This entry, extracted from the Ford parish baptism register 1750 - 1803, which includes Crookham village, refers to William Brown born 31st December 1800 and baptised 30th January 1801. He was the son of Thomas Brown, who was a Husbandman by profession and was a native of Truffet Mains, Rothbry parish. Thomas's wife was recorded as Jane Storey.
When a person is baptised an entry is made in the baptism register. Of particular interest are the baptism registers for the period 1798-1812. These are known as Bishop Barrington registers. Shute Barrington, Bishop of Durham, ordered that additional information should be recorded in the registers, for example, details about the parents and sometimes grandparents of the child being baptised.
