Newbiggin-by-the-Sea, Fishermen's Cottages - Click for bigger imageFishermen's cottages at Robinson Square in Newbiggin, facing north, about 1901. Cottages, whether for fishermen, pitmen or farm labourers were usually built in rows or squares. The routine of domestic life in such close quarters was carried out practically in public. In this scene George Robinson, Mary Robinson (on the right near the doorway, and another woman are baiting fishing lines.
