This entry, extracted from the Berwick parish burial register, refers to James Mill. James died on the 25th December 1802 and was buried on the 1st January 1803 aged 25 years. He was a Mariner from Montrose who drowned in the River Tweed.
When a person is buried an entry is made in the burial register. Of particular interest are the burial registers of the period 1798-1812. These are known as Bishop Barrington registers. Shute Barrington, Bishop of Durham, ordered that additional information should be recorded, for example, a person's age and occupation when they died.
