The item has been extracted from a collection called "The History of Coalmining". This collection contains material that has been extracted from printed volumes as well as various plans. Extracts from newspapers have also been collected, which together, produce an in-depth history of all types of mining, geology and mechanical engineering in the north of England. The material was collected between 1779 and 1849 by John Bell of Gateshead, County Durham. This item comes from the papers of The North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers [NEIMME], which have been deposited with the Northumberland Archive Service. The collection relates to the history and development of the coalmining and engineering industries in the North of England, with particular reference to Northumberland and Durham.
