1881 Census Returns for Northumberland - Click for bigger imageThis is an extract from the 1881 Census Returns for Northumberland which includes Morpeth Jail. Residing at Morpeth Jail was John Gleghorn with his wife. John, aged 52 years was the Prison Gate Porter. He was born at Morpeth in Nortumberland. Also residing at the prison were a number of inmates including Adolph Ernest Fuker. Adolph, aged 17 years, was a Seaman from Dresden in Hungary. Census Returns are an excellent source when doing family history. The Northumberland Record Office holds microfilm and microfiche copies of the Northumberland Census Returns from 1841 to 1901.
