This is an extract from the 1881 Census Returns for Northumberland which includes Bamburgh.
Living at Lord Crewe's Charity School is Ann Bowman. Ann, aged 49 years, was the head of the household and unmarried. Living with her were her sister, two visitors and a number of scholars. Her occupation was that of a Matron and she was born at Ryhope in County Durham.
Census Returns are an excellent source when doing family history. The Northumberland Record Office holds microfilm and microfiche copies of the Northumberland Census Returns from 1841 to 1901.
