Empress of Scotland arriving at Blyth - Click for bigger imageHughes Bolckow, Ship Builder and Breaker bought the liner "Empress of Scotland" for £43,000 [approximately 1 million pounds by today's prices] for scrap. She arrived in December 1930, but shortly caught fire after she was opened to the public. The fire raged for 4 days and took over 100 fire fighters to bring it under control.
