Bedlington Colliery Pitmens Bond - Click for bigger imageThe second page of the Bond between the pitmen and the owners of Bedlington Colliery. The names of some of the Hewers are listed. Those who could not write their names marked the bond with a cross [X]. This item comes from the Weeks collection of records relating to mining throughout the North East of England covering the period 1830 to 1950. The collection comprises volumes of reports and correspondence also plans and working papers of John George Weeks d.1916 and his son Richard James Weeks mainly relating to Lord Ravensworth's collieries and the Bedlington Coal Company, for both of which J.G. Weeks acted as agent The Weeks Collection forms part of the papers of The North of England Institute of Mining and Mechanical Engineers [NEIMME], which have been deposited with the Northumberland Archive Service. The collection relates to the history and development of the coalmining and engineering industries in the North of England, with particular reference to Northumberland and Durham.
